National Heritage and Tourism Workshop 2020 by WCLA in collaboration with Institute of Art and Culture and Archaeology Department Punjab University


On September 16, 2020, Punjab University and Walled City of Lahore Authority have signed a memorandum of understanding for human resource development in the field of conservation, preservation of heritage buildings and promotion of culture. The agreement signing ceremony was held at Vice Chancellor’s office in which PU Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad, WCLA Director General Kamran Lashari, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Saleem Mazhar, Dean Faculty of Arts and Humanities Prof Dr Amra Raza, Director External Linkages Dr Sobia Khurram, Department of Archeology Chairman Dr Muhammad Hameed and other officials participated.
In continuation of the MOU, Department of Archaeology, University of the Punjab joined hands with Walled City of Lahore Authority to organize a Three Days Workshop (2nd of the series) on National Heritage and Tourism, from 27-29 November 2020, at Royal Kitchens inside Lahore Fort. Institute of Art and Culture was also one of the three collaborative partners of the academic event. Director General WCLA Me. Kamran Lashari in his welcome address briefed all participants about purpose of the workshop. Academicians, Scholars, Archaeologists, Historians, Architects, Entrepreneurs, Artists, Tourism and Heritage Experts from all over the country participated in the workshop. Various aspects related to conservation, restoration, coverage and development of Archaeological and Historical tourism of build heritage of Pakistan, were discussed and the participants emphasized and agreed to strengthen institutional as well as Private-Public partnerships. Keeping in view theme of the workshop “Adoptive Re-Use of Historical Buildings”, experts agreed and supported the idea of Re-using the heritage but with certain conditions. On behalf of Vice Chancellor, and Dean Faculty of Arts and Humanities,  Dr. Muhammad Hameed, Chairman Department of Archaeology, University of the Punjab, hosted evening at Barood Khana and briefed about role of Punjab University in the promotion of Tourism in Pakistan. DG Walled City of Lahore Authority and all other honourable delegates acknowledged and appreciated vibrant contribution of University of the Punjab in the workshop.
