PU CSAS organizes workshop


LAHORE: (Tuesday, May 24, 2022): Punjab University Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS) in collaboration with Ministry of Human Rights, Islamabad organized a workshop on human rights awareness focusing about women and children rights in Pakistan. On this occasion, Director, International Cooperation, Ministry of Human Rights Mr Shehzad Ahmad Khan, Director CSAS Prof Dr Umbreen Javaid, Assistant Director, Ministry of Human Rights Mr Adeel Akbar, faculty members and students were present. Director, International Cooperation, Ministry of Human Rights Mr Shehzad Ahmad Khan facilitated the session on international commitments / obligations pertaining to Human Rights and on protection against harassment of women at the workplace. Assistant Director, Ministry of Human Rights Mr Adeel Akbar facilitated the session on Zainab Alert Response and Recovery Act and redressal & referral mechanism in place for the survivors of human rights violations. The workshop on human rights awareness focused on micro-level human rights violations in Pakistan and the possible way out in such situations. Moreover, the speakers mainly focused on women and children rights in Pakistan. The speakers engaged students of various departments through questions and drills and also highlighted the basic information of United Nations and its role in combating the human rights issues in its signatory states with special emphasis on Pakistan. The workshop’s main focus evolved around the usage of citizen’s portal that files cases related to human rights. The procedural use of Zainab Alert and other forums were also mentioned by Human Rights Ministry team. Moreover, to redress the issue, different documentaries were also played that included the detailed procedure to use different applications, operated or regulated by Ministry of Human Rights, Islamabad. In her address, Prof Dr Umbreen Javaid thanked the guests and students.
