PU ICSC organizes conference


LAHORE: (Tuesday, March 7, 2023): Punjab University Institute of Social and Cultural Studies organized in collaboration with Population Welfare Department, Punjab has organized a conference on ‘Digital Solutions to Improve Women & Child Health’ on the occasion of International Women's Day. Director General Punjab Welfare Department Saman Rai, VC Poonch University Prof Dr Zakria Zakir, Director Technical PWD Dr Zubda Riaz, Human Rights Activist, Pakistan Program Coordinator Sidra Humayun, ISCS Director Prof Dr Rubeena Zakir, faculty members and Students participated in large the event. In his address, Prof. Dr. Zakaria Zakir said that 90% of violence occurs at homes, and to prevent it, victims of violence should not be ignored. He said that the use of modern technology should be ensured to improve the public health of children and women. He said that the responsibility of establishing a balanced society rests with social scientists. Saman Rai said that adoption of digital mindset for social change was the need of the hour for which social scientists could play a role. She said that a change in the mindset was possible with the use of positive applications in smartphones. She said that there are certain things that we could not do with our parents, sister, brother or anyone, for that we could contact the digital platform. She said that the digital platform provides equal information, facts and opportunities to men and women. She said that all the institutions of the Punjab government were playing active role in the promotion of modern technology. She said that to keep up with the world, one has to work according to new trends instead of traditional methods. She said that it was a pleasure to organize the best conference, for which the organizers deserve congratulations. Dr Rubeena Zakir welcomed the participants and said that according to the health of women and the income of the family, there should be a suitable interval between the births of children. She said that for the improvement of the quality of life, it is necessary that a woman should be given the right to decide on the birth of a second child. Dr Zubda Riaz said that to prevent the spread of population, young students have to become ambassadors and provide awareness to the people around them. Sidra Humayun said that the youth have to plan for the future for the betterment of themselves and Pakistan. She said that women should work together to provide equal rights and resources. She said that to end gender violence and discrimination, it is important to consider everyone as an individual.
