Need to promote collaborative research, PU VC

LAHORE: (Thursday, November 20, 2025): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali said that no challenge can be resolved by a single organization; we must reach out and collaborate. He expressed these views while inaugurating the ‘Recombinant Vaccine and Protein Production Lab’ at the School of Biological Sciences. This significant event was accompanied by an agreement signing ceremony, transferring poultry vaccine technology to the Sindh Institute of Animal Health (SIAH) Karachi. On this occasion, PU Pro-VC Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, DG SIAH Dr Nazeer Hussain Kolhoro, Director Research SIAH Dr Benazir Kanwal, President Pakistan Academy of Sciences Prof Dr Kauser Abdullah Malik, Director General Punjab Agriculture Drug & Food Authority Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, Director CEMB Prof Dr Moazur Rahman, Acting DG SBS Prof Dr Sadaf Naz, and faculty members were present. PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali praised Prof Moaz ur Rahman's efforts, emphasizing the technology's potential economic benefits. He thanked Dr Talat Pasha, Prof Dr Shahida Hussnain, Dr Benazir, Dr Nazeer Hussain Kolhoro and Dr Kauser Abdullah Malik. He said that he is happy to see this unique collaboration among the field. He said that these are very good researchers and scientists who are working on a lively project. He said that we need to develop effective collaboration for such effective outputs. He said that this vaccine development is extremely appreciable till transfer technology and we look forward to positive outcomes of this tech transfer. He congratulated Dr Moaz who developed the poultry vaccine technology and Dr Kolhoro, to whom the Technology has been transferred. He also distributed certificates to participants of a hands-on training program on recombinant vaccine production held at CEMB and SBS. Dr Kolhoro said that our ancestors pave the way for us and this is the area in which we should all come forward. He said that initially we worked in isolation but later found out ways to interact and collaborate. He said that wonderful research remained limited in labs and I realized someone should come forward to take it to public reach. SIAH was the first institute legalized for production of vaccines and first one health institutes where we deal with environmental health, animal health and human health, he added. He said that it is a happy moment to sign an agreement and marketing for this vaccine with PU. Prof Dr Moazur Rahman, the developer of technology, provided an overview of recombinant vaccine technology, highlighting its potential impact on the country's economy. Lab facilities available for in-house as well as for researchers from across the country will be fruitful, he added. He also acknowledged Dr Naeem, Dr Sadaf and all supporting staff. He said that it will be forming a consortium including researchers from CEMB and SBS. He thanked funding organizations including HEC, PAS etc. Dr Sadaf Naz thanked the distinguished guests and participants. The certificates were presented to Prof Moaz for developing the technology, Dr Kolhoro, the recipient of technology and Prof Sadaf Naz for her continuous support.
