The University of the Punjab, Lahore, successfully concluded a three-day intensive training workshop from November 24 to 26, 2025, as part of the prestigious Digitization Project in collaboration with the Hill Museum and Manuscripts Library (HMML), St. John’s University, Minnesota, USA.

A total of nine participants attended the specialized training, including seven staff members from the University of the Punjab and two participants from other professional backgrounds. The workshop focused on advanced techniques and international standards for manuscript digitization, documentation, and preservation.

This initiative is a significant step forward for the University of the Punjab as it works toward the long-term preservation and accessibility of its invaluable collection of 20,000 historic manuscripts. The collaboration with HMML—one of the world’s leading institutions in manuscript preservation—ensures that the University benefits from global best practices in safeguarding cultural heritage.

University officials emphasized the importance of this program in strengthening institutional capacity, enhancing digital preservation skills, and preparing for the large-scale digitization phase planned under the ongoing project.

The participants expressed enthusiasm for the training, noting that the knowledge gained will greatly support the University’s mission to preserve its manuscript collection for future generations of scholars and researchers.
