PU, BIPP partner for solar energy project and scholarships

LAHORE: (Friday, January 16, 2026): Punjab University (PU) and the Shahid Javed Burki Institute of Public Policy at NUST (BIPP) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to install a solar power system at the university and support student scholarships. The MoU signing ceremony was held at the Vice Chancellor’s Office, PU. The ceremony was attended by PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, Chairman BIPP Mr. Shahid Javed Burki, Director Planning and Development PU Prof Dr Hafiz Anwaar Asghar, Director External Linkages PU Prof Dr Yaamina Salman, along with other senior officials. Under the agreement, BIPP will donate USD 40,000 for the installation of a solar energy system at Punjab University. The savings generated through net metering will be utilized to fund scholarships under the SJB Scholarship Fund for a period of 25 years, benefiting students from multiple academic disciplines. Punjab University will ensure transparent implementation of the project, regularly share academic progress reports of scholarship recipients with BIPP, and provide institutional recognition through acknowledgment on the university’s donor wall. Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali stated that the agreement would play a significant role in establishing a sustainable solar energy solution at the university. He emphasized that Punjab University is actively contributing towards promoting a clean and green environment. He lauded the Shahid Javed Burki Institute of Public Policy for its valuable contributions towards building a greener and more sustainable future for higher education institutions. This collaboration reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to sustainable energy initiatives and educational development.
