CS, IT graduates must be trained to secure jobs on their own terms: VC

Lahore: (Tuesday, November 18, 2025): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali has said that we must train our Computer Science (CS) and Information Technology (IT) graduates to the extent that they are able to secure jobs on their own terms. He was addressing the convocation of Punjab University Faculty of Computing and Information Technology here on Tuesday. On this occasion, former Rector of Virtual University Prof Dr Naveed Malik, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, Dean Faculty of Computing and Information Technology Prof Dr Shehzad Sarwar, Registrar Dr Ahmad Islam, heads of departments, faculty members, students and their parents were present. ![]() In his address, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali said that despite limited resources, the 60 percent share of PU IT graduates in the Lahore market is indeed commendable. He said that artificial intelligence (AI) is also a creation of human beings and instead of being afraid of it; there is a need to learn it and use it for Pakistan’s benefit. He said that with the advent of AI, jobs have not decreased; rather, their nature is changing. He emphasized that the process of learning and acquiring knowledge must continue so that our students are prepared to establish their own companies. He said that steps are being taken to establish a Software Technology Park at PU. He added that many PU teachers are serving as vice chancellors in various universities, which is a matter of pride for us. He said that in the QS Rankings, the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology of Punjab University is also included among Pakistan’s leading institutions. He congratulated the students receiving gold medals and degrees, as well as their parents and teachers. He said that parents are the only beings in the world who work and pray for the success of their children without any personal interest. Advising the students, he said that they should never consider their parents a burden; instead, they should treat them with respect and dignity, as this is the true ladder to success. Prof Dr Naveed Malik said that today is a day for degree and medal recipients to reflect on what they have achieved. He said that students should never underestimate their accomplishments. He added that the progress made by the FCIT in just a few years is highly commendable. Dr Shehzad Sarwar today marks a truly historic milestone in the academic journey of FCIT first convocation, which is a moment of immense pride, celebration, and reflection. He said that from 1988 as the Center for Computer Science, with just two dozen students, to its evolution into PUCIT, and now its establishment as the Faculty of Computing & Information Technology with more than two thousand students, our institution has travelled a remarkable path. He said due to bright, vibrant and highly dedicated faculty our institution is getting better ranking position in QS ranking.
