September 16, 2025 — The Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB), University of the Punjab, organized a one-day workshop on “Exploring the Potential of Transgenic Algae in Green Biotechnology.” Prof. Dr. Aqil Inam, Director ORIC, University of the Punjab, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. |
In his welcome address, Prof. Dr. Moaz-ur-Rahman, Director CEMB, highlighted the history of the Centre, paid tribute to its founding Director, Prof. Dr. Sheikh Riazuddin, and shared the achievements of various research groups. He warmly welcomed the participants. |

Dr. Mohsin Ahmad Khan, focal person of the workshop, introduced its objectives and announced that 23 participants from nine universities—including University of Swat, Hazara University, Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan, Kinnaird College, FC College, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, and The Women University Multan—were selected for the training. |
The keynote lecture was delivered by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aamer Mehmood (Department of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology, GCU Faisalabad) on “Algae Biotechnology in Circular Bioeconomy, Carbon Capture, Resource Cycling & Bioproducts.” His talk was both insightful and engaging. |

Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Aqil Inam commended CEMB’s efforts in hosting a timely and impactful workshop on algae biotechnology. He emphasized the importance of this technology for sustainable development and appreciated the Centre’s role in advancing cutting-edge research. |
During the souvenir distribution ceremony, Prof. Dr. Aqil Inam, Prof. Dr. Moaz-ur-Rahman, Prof. Dr. Kauser Malik, and Prof. Dr. Idrees Khan presented souvenirs to invited speakers Prof. Dr. Aamer Mehmood (Department of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology, GCU Faisalabad) and Prof. Dr. Ghulam Mustafa (CABB, University of Agriculture Faisalabad), as well as to event sponsor PHILCO. Director CEMB also presented a souvenir to the Chief Guest, Prof. Aqil Inam, as a token of thanks. |

The workshop concluded with lecture sessions and hands-on training by CEMB experts, equipping participants with practical skills in algae-based technologies and their applications in biotechnology. |
